Revisiting the Foundations of Education in Africa : Piet du Toit
A5, 609p. A history of education in Subsaharan-Africa, up to 1939
The contribution of this book is that it gives an overview of the development of formal education in 26 African countries south of the Sahara. It covers the period from the first efforts to establish formal schools in the region in 1491 up to 1939, when education had already for some time been under Colonial Government control. By that time the educational foundations and the basic structures of formal education were well laid and in place.
